Aspen Skiing Co. Proposes New Employee Housing in El Jebel | Avant Garde Aspen Luxury Real Estate

Stephanie Kroll

Aspen One, the parent company of Aspen Skiing Co., is taking steps to address the region’s ongoing housing challenges for seasonal and year-round employees. The company is in the early stages of developing a 111-unit rental housing community called EJ Crossing, designed specifically for its workforce and their families, the Aspen Daily News reports.

Project Overview

  • Name: EJ Crossing

  • Location: Roughly 20-acre parcel off J W Drive in El Jebel, situated between the Blue Lake neighborhood and a bus barn for the Roaring Fork School District

  • Units: 111 rental units

  • Purpose: Housing for year-round Aspen Skiing Co. employees and their families

  • Application Status: Aspen One plans to submit materials to Eagle County in the coming month

The project represents a strategic effort by Aspen One to expand housing options for its workforce amid the valley’s tight housing market, which has long been a challenge for both seasonal and full-time employees.

Current Housing Programs

Aspen One currently manages 1,300 beds across its properties, including:

  • The Hub at Willits: 150 beds across 43 units for seasonal employees

  • Tenants for Turns Program: 200 employees housed in private residences

Despite these efforts, demand continues to exceed supply, particularly for year-round staff, which EJ Crossing aims to address.

Location and Community Impact

EJ Crossing’s location in El Jebel positions the development near schools, transit, and community amenities, offering convenient access for employees and their families. By providing rental units rather than ownership opportunities, Aspen One hopes to maintain flexibility for staff while also fostering a sense of community within the development.

Looking Ahead

If approved, EJ Crossing could serve as a model for workforce housing solutions in resort communities, balancing the needs of employees with the broader goals of sustainable community growth. As the project moves through the Eagle County application process, public feedback and planning approvals will shape the final design and implementation.

This development underscores Aspen Skiing Co.’s commitment to supporting its employees and addressing one of the most pressing issues in the Roaring Fork Valley: affordable, convenient housing for those who make the resort community thrive.
