One of Aspen’s most storied private estates has officially entered a new chapter. The legendary Merry Go Ranch on McLain Flats, long owned by local icon Leonard “Boogie” Weinglass, sold earlier this month for $42,000,000 after spending years quietly circulating on and off the market.
Spanning more than 21 acres at 1650 McLain Flats Road, the ranch has been a fixture of Aspen’s cultural and social landscape for over four decades. For Weinglass and his family, the property was far more than a luxury estate. It was a multigenerational home, a gathering place, and the physical manifestation of a life built through persistence, creativity, and community.
Weinglass often described the ranch as a dream realized through his own grit and determination. Raised with limited means, he built Merry Go Ranch without inherited wealth, creating something that reflected both ambition and heart. Over the years, the land became deeply intertwined with his family’s story, with three generations calling it home.
The estate itself is one of the most comprehensive residential compounds in the Roaring Fork Valley. It includes a 9,150 square foot main residence with eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms, a two bedroom guest residence, a massive indoor athletic facility, and a fully outfitted equestrian center featuring an eight stall indoor barn, paddocks, and pasture. The property’s scale, privacy, and amenities place it among the most significant private holdings in Aspen.
Beyond its physical footprint, Merry Go Ranch has played a unique role in Aspen’s cultural life. The grounds have hosted countless charity galas, performances, and private events over the years. From DanceAspen productions to tennis matches featuring legends like Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert, the property has long served as a stage for both athletic and artistic expression.
The sale closed just under the estate’s most recent asking price and reflects the ongoing demand for rare legacy properties in Aspen, particularly those that combine acreage, privacy, and historical significance. While the ownership has changed, the spirit of the property remains intact.
Weinglass has spoken openly about the emotional weight of parting with a place so deeply tied to his life and family. He watched the land evolve over decades, every tree and structure growing alongside his own journey. But as with all chapters, even the most meaningful eventually give way to what comes next.
Merry Go Ranch now begins a new era, carrying forward its place as one of Aspen’s most iconic private estates and an enduring part of the valley’s story.
