Where to Play Padel and Pickleball in Aspen and Snowmass, Colorado | Avant Garde Aspen Luxury Real Estate

Pickleball has rapidly become a favorite pastime in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley, attracting players of all ages with its blend of competitiveness and community spirit. While padel is not as prevalent in the area, the region offers a variety of venues and programs for pickleball enthusiasts.

Roaring Fork Pickleball Association (RFPA)

Established in 2015, the RFPA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting pickleball through education, facility development, and community engagement. The association manages several courts and offers resources for players across the valley.

Places to Play

  • Carbondale: The Young-Calaway Alpine Bank Pickleball Courts serve as a central hub for players. The facility features six dedicated courts, with plans to expand to 12 by converting existing tennis courts. Drop-in play is available for $10, or players can opt for a $75 annual membership.

  • Snowmass Village Recreation Center: This center boasts eight outdoor pickleball courts during the summer months and transitions to indoor play during the off-season. Players can participate in clinics, round robins, and private lessons. Reservations and program details are available through the center's website.

  • Aspen Recreation Center (Iselin Courts): Located near the Aspen Recreation Center, the Iselin courts offer four pickleball courts open year-round from dawn until dusk, free of charge. These courts operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • El Jebel Sport Court: Situated in El Jebel, this multi-use facility accommodates pickleball players and provides a welcoming atmosphere for enthusiasts in the mid-valley area.

Indoor Facilities

During the winter months, indoor pickleball is available at several locations:

  • Basalt Middle School: Offers four indoor courts with scheduled playtimes on Fridays and Saturdays. A $5 fee applies.

  • Carbondale Recreation Center: Provides indoor courts with sessions on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Fees are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors.

  • Glenwood Springs Recreation Center: Features three indoor courts with various playtimes throughout the week. Standard recreation center entry fees apply.

Instruction and Coaching

For those looking to improve their game, several certified instructors are available:

  • Aspen Pickleball: Led by Lauren Andersen, Aspen Pickleball offers lessons, clinics, and round robins tailored to various skill levels. Programs are held at the Snowmass Recreation Center during the off-season.

  • Cascades Tennis, LLC: Operating at the Aspen Meadows Resort, Cascades Tennis provides pickleball and tennis lessons, with certified instructors available for private and group sessions.

Padel in the Roaring Fork Valley

While padel has not yet gained significant traction in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley, interest in the sport is growing. Currently, there are limited facilities dedicated to padel in the area, though they do exist. However, organizations like Cascades Tennis, LLC, have announced the availability of RPP Certified Padel Pros, indicating potential future offerings for padel enthusiasts.

The courts at Smuggler in Aspen now have a dedicated Padel court, that they shovel snow off of for play even during the winter months. For more information, follow @aspenpadelclub on Instagram.
